HDA is a local charity that provides unique services and support for D/deaf and hard of hearing people living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Our mission is to promote effective communication between deaf and hearing people and to promote the rights of deaf people to the same opportunities, the same access and the same independence as hearing people.

Over 9 million people in the UK have some form of hearing loss which equates to one in seven people. Many people only associate deafness with getting old, which is traumatic enough in itself, but for younger people who may have been born deaf or lose their hearing through an illness or accident it can be devastating. Deafness is not a visible disability and many people are not aware of the effect it can have not only on the person, but their friends, family and at work as well.
